The challenges.

The client’s daily average for coupons published was significantly low.

Coupons expire. Deals get discontinued. Offer terms & conditions change quietly. This niche has a fast-paced ecosystem, but the client company was held back by many roadblocks.

 

Expired coupons were hurting credibility

The client didn’t have the in-house capacity to maintain a fresh and updated catalogue of coupons in line with seasonal trends, festival sales, Black Friday events and more.

So despite good traffic on their coupon pages, bounce rates were rising due to expired coupons. This eventually led to a drop in traffic as shoppers moved away.

 

Too many details to check, not enough manpower

A coupon hunter has to test every code manually, check its expiration date, identify whether it is single-use or reusable and find out the exact discount type (percentage off, fixed dollar amount, BOGO, free shipping). They also have to find minimum order value requirements, product categories, region-specific restrictions, the correct product link and the correct currency.

After checking every single detail, they also have to write great coupon descriptions using the right keywords. 

Fewer people handling such a detail-heavy task meant the client’s daily average for coupons published was significantly low.

 

Low SERP rankings

Ranking in the first few results on the SERP is the biggest revenue-driving factor for affiliate marketing companies. Before hitting the checkout button, shoppers turn to Google to find “coupon codes” and “discounts” in the hopes of a more economical final price. These are bottom-of-the-funnel and highly commercial keywords. 

But despite months of efforts, their coupons were not ranking well due to low keyword optimization scores.

To solve these problems, the client’s most pressing concern was finding creative and agile coupon hunters who could write well, verify a long list of details accurately and also do keyword optimization. A bigger, overseas team would also expand their capacity to onboard more affiliate brands.

For these needs, the client decided to partner with us.

The Zenius process.

Custom assessments targeting every task.

Taking this further, we created two assessments from scratch for this profile. These were highly customized assessments that targeted each part of the coupon-hunting process individually.

Writing abilities 

The candidates were asked to draft short articles on new topics to check for creativity and readability, along with basic English grammar and vocabulary skills.

Research & factchecking

These questions tested the candidate’s ability to spot inconsistencies and factual errors, verify currency differences and identify coupon validity periods.

We also wanted to see whether they could successfully find crucial details hidden in terms & conditions and other corners of commercial websites.

English proficiency

CEFR test scores gave us visibility into the candidate’s English writing, comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and other communication skills. 

Hands-on interview

The screening concluded with a practical interview. Our expert interviewer gave a time-bound task and asked the candidate to walk them through the entire process, from finding the right coupon code to writing the coupon description. 

This helped us check the candidates’ real-time performance under pressure and gave us a complete picture of their suitability for the role.
